Christmas Movie Review – A Christmas Wish

I love some faith mixed in with my Christmas movie watching. After all we are celebrating the birth of Jesus. This week I watched a really sweet one that I had not heard of. I think I’m going to have to pick it up later!

ABOUT THE FILM (From the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries site):  When Martha Evans (Kristy Swanson) finds herself homeless with her two young daughters and stepson just a week before Christmas, she puts her trust in a new town full of friendly strangers and prays for the best.

Martha’s no good husband, Cal (Bart Johnson), has left her for the last time, emptying her bank account and disappearing without a word. Hopeless, Martha takes the kids to a sleepy town where she moves into a motel and begs the owner of the local diner, Trudy (Tess Harper), to hire her as a waitress. Taking a chance, Trudy decides to help Martha and her children, even as things go from bad to worse when Martha’s car breaks down and her bills start piling up. Then, as Martha begins to meet more of the locals, including handsome sheriff Joe (K.C. Clyde), perky teenage babysitter Jeanie (Danielle Chuchran) and grumpy but warm-hearted diner regular Les (Edward Herrmann), Martha finds her faith just be restored—-until Cal returns. Can the town still give Martha the merry Christmas she needs, or will her past prevent her from the happiness she’s found this holiday?

MY REVIEW: A Christmas Wish is definitely one of my choices for a perfect Christmas movie. The story is sweet and has moments of faith. Martha and her children are definitely down on their luck. Her husband has left them with very little money and options and they are in search of a new start. It is a brave undertaking hitting the road with small children and very little money. They find their way to Mapleton, a small town that is also somewhat down on its luck. There aren’t a lot of options for the newly single mom and her children in this new town, but doors open for them here and there from a place to stay in a small motor inn to a job at a cafe that has also seen  better days.

Kristy and her family learn they are not alone.  They truly feel the love of the small town and allow their hearts to be impacted. In turn they open hearts of some of the towns more interesting characters.  A Christmas Wish truly is a Christmas movie not to be missed.

What I liked: This movie was very well acted from top to bottom. The story had many great moments that make you laugh and also that soften the heart. I loved that it showed that no one person can change everything but when we work together we can bless in so many ways.

What I would like to see tweaked: Nothing. It really is a special film.

RECOMMENDATION: If you are looking for a Christmas story with faith, family and lots of hope, you should definitely check out A Christmas Wish. If you are looking for a new Christmas film to add to your list this year, you will not be disappointed. This one is a keeper.  I watched this via the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel but this is one I will purchase.
