It has been a while, but I am happy to dive into this New Year 2018 with Five Minute Friday and this Friday’s prompt is motivate!
Let’s go!
From the moment I read the word, my mind rushed to the things that I have made my focus this year.ย
1 – Getting my healthy back. I begin with the Whole30 plan. This is the one way I know to detox the garbage out of my body and mind and get myself on a steady track to better health. Not the best health, not massive weight loss. With a thyroid condition, you go for what you can get. My motivation. Well, my niece is getting married and she did ask me to be in the wedding. Bridesmaid dresses are horrors as it is. I definitely do not want to be house coating it. Just kidding. Still it didn’t hurt as a motivator. Mostly it is I want to feel better. I think a good healthy eating plan willย help my whole body.
2 – Writing. Hence I am back on the saddle here which is really one of my favorite places for writing and encouragement (love FMF). My motivation. I have written before I knew words. I drew pictures and told my mom stories to go with them. It has been in my heart, but fear seized control of my mind. My motivation is NO MORE FEAR.
3 – Get to know my new state. We are in Michigan now and the first four months were an exercise in waiting on the Lord. My hope now is to take time to get to know this lovely state. This frozen and lovely state. Okay, maybe just Northern Michigan is frozen. I have to do it on a budget, but my husband has a pretty good list going. I am motivated by my love for my husband and knowing this will be fun for him and I love being on the road! An added bonus is my husband is now working at the radio station with me so he has his weekends back! God is good!
Times up!
I hope whatever motivates you will spur you on to your goals today and every day. I am glad I wrote this post. I believe it is going to give me an extra boost.
If you want to join in Five Minute Friday, it is never too late (I often wrote on Sundays because I had no internet in the woods) so join in!

Kelly, I love the energy you infuse in your words! Praying that you begin to see progress in each of these items you’ve enumerated. I also work at a radio station as a part-time on-air announcer. Are you on the air or support staff?
Blessings to you!

Kelly says
Hi Vicki, I was a mid-day host and a weekend host. In MI I will be going back on weekends soon. I have also worked in many support positions from traffic to donor development. Do you work at a Christian station as well? Thanks so much for visiting today!
Tara says
I know quite a few people who are doing Whole 30. I might have to try it myself. I’m in the 57 spot.
Kelly says
I did it once before Tara, and it was great! The important thing is for me to make it more of a lifestyle thing. Twenty-five days to go. ๐ Thanks for visiting!
Tammy says
You’re a great motivator!! ๐
Kelly says
Awww Tammy, that is very kind of you. Thanks so much. And thank you for visiting.
Lisa says
Hi Kelly! I’m glad to have found your blog, thanks to FMF! This was the perfect prompt for our first link up of the year and I found your goals and motivations SO relatable! Healthy eating, writing, and getting out to enjoy the world around me are things I’m aiming for too in 2018. ๐
Kelly says
Hi Lisa! I just love FMF! I really appreciate your visiting and encouragement. I just loved your blog. ๐
Lesley says
It’s great to see you back here, Kelly, and I like your goals for the year! I think reminding ourselves of our reasons for setting goals is important and can really motivate us to keep going with them.
Kelly says
Thank you Lesley! I am so glad to be back too! I missed FMF and everyone! I am praying that I can keep a handle on it. I really do feel like just writing this helped. ๐
Jeannie Prinsen says
Wishing you all the best with your goals, Kelly. I know what you mean about fear when it comes to writing. That’s something I constantly need to overcome: I have this fear that I won’t have any good ideas — or that if I do have good ideas, I won’t have the skill to translate them into something good on the page. That’s definitely something I need to work on.
Kelly says
Jeannie, you are speaking my thoughts there. I am happy to just finally let it go and give it to God. There has to be a reason it is still in my heart. ๐ Thank you for visiting today!

Hey, thanks for stopping by my site and WELCOME TO MICHIGAN!!!! Which Christian radio station do you work for? Iโd love to see if we get it and listen to your show. Thatโs such a cool job. I grew up on the west side of the state but now I live in the southeastern corner, I love being close to a Great Lake but wish we were closer to my family and The Lake Michigan. Looking forward to hearing about your journey and getting to know you this year!
Kelly says
Hi Andrea! Thanks for visiting! I was a mid-day and weekend host in various time in AZ. Right now I am in training to go back to Saturdays at the Promise FM. New studio equipment means more time in the booth practicing and working on show prep. ๐ I’ll let you know when I’m up again. ๐
I am loving Michigan! We are renting a sweet little home in town and are looking forward to finding something permanent. I’m leaning toward a charming older home and my husband is more modern. ๐ I think I’ll win. Look forward to getting to know you too!
Have a blessed week!
Esther says
Kelly, thanks for your post. Your goals give me some ideas for a vision board and your sense of humor made me smile. Blessings.
Kelly says
Thank you Esther, you bless my heart. I have been thinking about doing a vision board myself. I’ve never done one, but I have seen some amazing ones. I’m going to do some hunting on this. Have a wonderful week!
Stephanie Thompson says
Hi Kelly! Glad to see you back! Goals symbolize hope. Of course, the goals themselves may morph, but, they remind you of a “hope and a future.” (Jer. 29:11) I am from Michigan (lower) but love Northern Michigan!
Kelly says
Hi Stephanie! Thank you so much for coming by! I am looking forward to exploring lots of Michigan as we get settled in. ๐ I was really excited about getting to visit Mackinac for a women’s conference this past fall.
Jeremiah 29:11 & 12 are two of my favorite verses. Thanks for visiting me today!
Janyre Tromp says
Welcome to Michigan, Kelly! I have a love/hate relationship with the mitten. I love the beauty of the snow, but man, it hurts. Have fun exploring.
It sounds like you are super motivated. I detoxed right before Thanksgiving and find myself in need of doing it again. Christmas treats are yummy, but they did a number on my system.
A random question: Do you have Hashimoto’s? The thyroid reference made me wonder.
Kelly says
Thanks Janyre! I am still loving the snow and icicles, but you are right, the cold can hurt. I’ve lived in Maine, Rhode Island and even my place in AZ got snow, but the cold never hurt my face. ๐ The beauty is worth it though.
I am just hypothyroid but I have difficulty converting T-4 to T-3 so I really have to stay on natural thyroid replacements. I am also one of those souls who if you just test TSH seem pretty close to normal. Thankfully my clinical presentation is obvious and I had a wonderful doctor back in California who helped me a great deal with more in depth testing. Are you hypothyroid?
Jerralea says
These are some good goals, Kelly. You’re focusing on health for the body, writing for intellect, and enjoying the world around you for your emotions! I hope 2018 brings you lots of good things!
Sounds like you have an interesting job, too. Life is good, eh?
Kelly says
Hi Jerralea,
Life is amazing and God is sooo good! I am so grateful for this new chapter in our lives. ๐
Thank you so much for visiting!
Anita Ojeda says
It sounds like you have some great reasons to be healthy! Not only for the wedding, but for exploring your new state :). It’s good to see you back in the FMF space :).
Kelly says
Thank you so much Anita! I am so looking forward to the wedding. My niece will make a lovely bride, and God has been so good to her! Thanks for the welcome back. I am so happy to be with FMF again.
