Once a month or so, my husband and I like to take a little restaurant run and try something local. Yesterday, we took local out of town, but still enjoyed the local vibe by dropping by the Colt Grill (also known online in some areas as Colt 804 Grill) in Old Town Cottonwood, AZ.
My husband who is always on the hunt for great food, drink and experience discovered Colt Grill via their Instagram account. I think they had him as soon as he saw brisket. Seriously, who wouldn’t be drawn in by some amazing pictures of smokey brisket?
One important thing to realize going in is you order at the register area before sitting. This has never been an issue for Scott and me. We have a few faves where you order and then sit down. Some, like the Blackboard Kitchen (which I really need to share with you) and the Phoenix Public Market Cafe will bring the food to you after you order and others like Colt Grill, will give you a solid holler when your food it up. It all works if the food is good, and the food at Colt Grill…well, we get to it in a few.
Grab a menu or look at the wall to make your pick. As you can hopefully see by the menu picture here, the prices are reasonable. Though the decision making process was tough!
The layout is really warm and comfortable inside and outside where outdoor seating is available where you can relax and enjoy your meal beside a lovely fountain.
A fan of fish and chips will guarantee that I visit again, but the call of brisket tacos was more than I could ignore. And apparently my decision peaked Scott’s interest so much, he requested the same, and neither of us could pass by the word “crispy seasoned fries” so we ordered a basket of decadence! They had the standard beverages (including fresh iced tea!), wine, beer and cocktails. We kept it simple there with me being thrilled at some fresh brewed iced tea and Scott happily enjoying a Coke.
As you can see from above, the corn taco shells were overflowing. The brisket was smokey and delicious and when we added some of Colt Grill‘s sauce Desert Heat…wow! The basket of crispy seasoned fries were absolutely fresh and tasty and popped with both the malt vinegar we added and more of that delicious Desert Heat sauce.
Scott and I are already looking forward to another visit to the Colt Grill. We definitely want to take advantage of their sample platter of brisket, ribs and such. Check them out if you are in AZ. In fact be sure to check out Old Town Cottonwood. Between the yummy places to eat and the variety of shops, you are guaranteed a sweet afternoon.
*Thanks to my amazing husband Scott Blackwell for his awesome photos. He rocks!
